FAQs

WHAT IS CBD?

CBD is an acronym for cannabidiol (can-a-bid-ee-awl), a prominent naturally occurring phytocannabinoid found in hemp. Depending on the specific hemp cultivar, CBD can comprise the majority of a plant’s phytocannabinoid content. However, it is just one of dozens of different cannabinoids and phytochemicals found in hemp. Of these compounds, however, CBD is usually present in the highest concentration. It is, therefore, one of the most recognized – and popular. CBD is a non-intoxicating component of hemp that possesses a wide range of beneficial properties. It does not cause a high, unlike THC. Our bodies are made up of an endocannabinoid system (ECS) that uses naturally-occurring endocannabinoids to maintain health and homeostasis. As a phytocannabinoid, CBD works to interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system and promote a sense of balance and wellness.

WHAT IS THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM?

Every single person has an endocannabinoid system (ECS), whether they’ve consumed hemp products before in their lives or not. The ECS consists of naturally-occurring endocannabinoids (such as anandamide) and their corresponding receptors (such as CB-1 and CB-2 receptors). The ECS is believed to interact with dozens of different internal processes in the body. Endocannabinoids interact with various receptors, and this molecular interaction communicates messages to the body’s central nervous system. We are still far from a complete understanding of the human ECS, but it is an incredibly exciting topic of interest.

CBD is a phytocannabinoid (‘phyto’ meaning plant-based) from hemp that shares a similar molecular structure as the body’s natural endocannabinoids. As such, it interacts with ECS receptors to influence a range of wellness benefits.

WHAT IS CBD OIL?

CBD oil is extracted from hemp that has high levels of cannabidiol (CBD) and low levels (less than 0.3%) of THC. Raw hemp extract can be used in paste form, or mixed with other oils such as coconut, olive, MCT, or hemp seed oil to produce what’s commonly known as a ‘CBD oil.’ CBD oils from Herban Legends are made with MCT oil due to the molecular structure of medium chain triglycerides, which works well to help dissolve the CBD compound as efficiently as possible.

The cannabidiol (CBD) content of CBD oil can vary tremendously across different brands since manufacturers use an assortment of techniques (and different hemp cultivars) to make their CBD oil. At Herban Legends, we only produce CBD oil from hemp that has a high concentration of phytochemicals (see corresponding lab reports) and THC levels under 0.3%.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEMP & MARIJUANA?

Taxonomically, hemp and marijuana are the same plant, with a genus and species name of Cannabis sativa L. They have a drastically different genetic profile though. Industrial hemp is its own ‘variety’ of Cannabis sativa L. (the word ‘strain’ is not applicable), while marijuana can exist as Cannabis sativa, Cannabis indica, or Cannabis ruderalis. The major difference is how industrial hemp has been bred compared to a marijuana form of Cannabis sativa.

Typically speaking, industrial hemp is very fibrous, with long strong stalks, and has few flowering buds. Marijuana forms of Cannabis sativa are typically smaller, bushier, and full of flowering buds. However, some industrial hemp varieties in the USA are being bred to have more flowers and higher yields of phytocannabinoids and terpenes, such as the hemp used to make Herban Legends products.

Generally speaking, marijuana has higher amounts of THC than it does CBD. Hemp, on the other hand, has a high amount of CBD in most instances, and only trace amounts of THC. Fortunately, the cannabinoid profile of hemp is ideal for people looking for benefits from the plant without the ‘high.’

Hemp has been used historically to make food, fiber, rope, paper, bricks, oil, natural plastic, and so much more. The term ‘CBD oil’ refers to hemp-derived oil with THC levels below 0.3%.

Herban Legends sources all of our CBD products using only the finest hemp. We are committed to quality, and want all customers to know that their satisfaction is our utmost concern. If you have any additional questions about hemp or any of our hemp-based products, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

IS CBD OIL LEGAL?

All Herban Legends products are made from USA-grown hemp, which is a legal regulated crop under the U.S. Farm Bill. Hemp contains many different phytocannabinoids and other plant-based compounds, and CBD is just one of these compounds. Please have a look at our lab reports for detailed information on the contents of each of our products.

HOW SHOULD I STORE MY CBD? WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE?

For the best shelf life, please keep your CBD oil in a cool, dry area out of direct sunlight. Doing so will help to preserve the hemp extract (you can even keep it in the refrigerator!) for as long as possible. If stored properly, CBD oil can have a shelf life of a year or even longer.

WILL I FAIL A DRUG TEST IF I TAKE CBD PRODUCTS?

Herban Legends products contain CBD, which is just one of many different phytochemicals found in hemp. Hemp may contain THC levels below 0.3%. Our full-spectrum products contain a complete range of hemp extract, including trace amounts of THC (below 0.3%). Most drug tests and drug screenings scan for the presence of THC or its metabolites, and consuming a hemp-based product may result in THC to be stored in your body for varying periods of time. Herban Legends makes no guarantee that users of CBD or hemp-based products will or will not fail a drug test or drug screening.
